Allison Comito - New Head Womens Lacrosse Coach at Stony Brook

July 12, 2006
Allison Comito was named the head women's lacrosse coach at Stony Brook in July 2006. Comito, who served as the interim coach for the 2006 season, takes over as the second head coach in program history after leading the Seawolves to their most successful season ever.

In her first season with the program, Comito led the Seawolves to a 9-9 overall record including a 4-2 mark in America East Conference play. The team set program records for conference wins and total wins in a season, while qualifying for the America East playoffs for the first time since the program's inaugural campaign in 2003. Under her guidance, four Seawolves earned America East All-Conference honors, including Bay Shore product Kaitlin Leggio, who was named the league's Rookie of the Year and first team all-conference.

As a college athlete, Comito compiled an impressive resume at lacrosse powerhouse University of Maryland, earning first team All-American honors in her final two seasons and All-ACC accolades three times during her career. A four-year starter, she helped lead the Terps to National Championships for four straight seasons at the tail end of a streak of seven straight titles, the third longest streak in NCAA women's sports history, and ACC Tournament titles in each of her final three. Following her playing career, Allison joined the Maryland coaching staff in 2002 as an undergraduate assistant coach.

A member of the 2001 STX South All-Star Team, Comito still stands among Maryland's all-time leaders in scoring, ranking fourth with 176 goals and fifth with 89 assists and 265 points in her career. She also ranks in the top 10 for goals (65 in 2000 and 56 in 1999) and points (92 in 2000) in a season.

Prior to her arrival at Stony Brook, Comito spent three years as a teaching assistant at the North Shore Middle School in Glen Head, N.Y., while also serving as the varsity girls assistant coach.

A native of Glen Head, N.Y., Comito earned her bachelor of arts degree in sociology from Maryland in July of 2002.
